Be diligent.. Beware the Resort Fee Scandal.

Over the last seven or eight years the scourge of the Las Vegas vacation market has been the sneaky surcharge added at check in on top of seemingly reasonable room rates.. The Resort fee is a charge that is hushed up whilst you are booking your holiday room, in an attempt to lure the customer into thinking they have a bargain value trip booked, only to be swindled at the front desk.. The Resort fee which appears common place these days varies from between $15 per night up to a horrendous $40 per night.. in addition to the price you’ve already agreed!!

The manner in which these fees are being applied is really the issue.. Customers quoted prices never include resort fees, which can create confusion for the customer who finds out only when he has to pay the bill at the end of his stay.

I questioned the fees a few years ago when I was faced with an additional $220 charge whilst checking in at the Stratosphere, even though I’d previously paid nearly $800 in hotel reservation charge prior to my trip.. The puzzled receptionist appeared shocked at my questioning the charge.. to which she replied, “The Fee is for all of the great amenities and restaurants in the hotel, which were available under the one roof.”
I then informed her that out of principle, that I wouldn’t spend another cent of my money in the Resort while I stayed there, opting to eat and entertain elsewhere..

Many of the major hotels have jumped upon this bandwagon with varying degrees of guilt.. The 2018 pricing in most cases is substantially inflated in comparison with the 2017 charges.

El Cortez is possibly 2018’s lowest rate at $15 per night, with Ellis Island and Artisan just behind at $18 per night.. The price jumps then to above $20 at Gold Coast and SunCoast along with Palace Station.. This is where greed comes into play with most of the remaining Strip hotels demanding over $30, with Tropicana, Trump, Monte Carlo, New York, Cosmopolitan, Paris, MGM , Mirage, Ph, Mandalay Bay and TI charging $35 per night.. Four Seasons, Bellagio, Wynn, Encore and Vdara all charging a whopping $40 Resort fee..

Not all of Las Vegas Accommodation includes this scandalous fee..
The 2018 list of Resort friendly places are;

America’s best value inn, California hotel, Casino Royale , Desert Rose , Four Queens, Fremont, Howard Johnson , Lucky club, Main Street station , La Quinta Inn, Residence inn, Red Roof Inn and Travelodge Center Strip
